Principal’s Update 19 October

Dear Belle Vue Families,

WORLD TEACHER’S DAY

This year, World Teachers’ Day is on Friday 27 October. It is an opportunity to say thank you for the incredible contributions teachers make to our community.

We will recognise the passion teachers have, and how teaching has extended beyond the classroom to maintain connections through flexible learning.

We will be celebrating World Teachers’ Day next Wednesday here at school, acknowledging our teachers’ commitment to your children in all they do every day.

You can get involved by sending a message of thanks to a teacher who is making, or has made, an impact on your life using #thanksvicteachers on social media. Don’t forget to tag the Department of Education and Training (the department) so we can see all your messages.

Head to the department’s World Teachers Day webpage for resources to help you celebrate World Teachers’ Day 2023, including ‘Thank You’ card templates.

WORLD OF MATHS INCURSION

Earlier this week our students participated in a World of Maths Incursion. This provided a great opportunity for students to see how maths is applied to everyday life situations and explore maths in a hands-on environment. Students worked in teams to solve a range of challenging and complex problems, exploring various mathematic concepts which are part of their curriculum. It also enabled students to continue to work on building productive maths dispositions, which are mindsets and behaviours that shape the way students engage and experience maths tasks and challenges. It was very pleasing to see the excitement and joy across many of our students as they solved the problems and discovered solutions to the mathematical puzzles.

COLOUR FUN RUN

What an amazing afternoon of colour, fun and community connection last week. We braved the erratic Melbourne Weather and got out as a whole school to enjoy our Colour Fun Run and complete our fundraising efforts from the end of Term 3. This was a really wonderful community effort to raise significant funds for our school and we are working with our Junior School Council to identify how we spend the funds raised for our students and to improve our fantastic school. Thank you to all of our parents and carers who supported on the day and for all of your energy and time in recent weeks supporting fundraising efforts too.

SCHOOL POLICY UPDATE

As required by the Department of Education and in consultation with School Council and staff, we regularly review and update our school polices, which can be located via our school website. The policies below have been updated and I welcome any comments/feedback. I will continue to inform the community as further polices are reviewed and updated.

CHILD SAFETY AND WELLBEING AT BELLE VUE PRIMARY SCHOOL: INFORMATION FOR FAMILIES AND THE SCHOOL COMMUNITY

Last year, the Victorian Government announced new Child Safe Standards to further strengthen child safety across organisations, including schools. The new standards recognise the critical importance of families and the broader school community in maintaining and promoting child safety and wellbeing.

Belle Vue Primary School has reviewed and updated our child safety policies and procedures to ensure they meet the requirements of the new standards. These are available to view on the school website.

We are committed to continuous improvement in our approach to child safety and wellbeing and welcome feedback from families and members of our school community on ways we can further strengthen our child safety policies, procedures and practices.

If you have any suggestions, comments or questions about Child Safety at Belle Vue Primary School, please contact the school office.

CELEBRATING VICTORIAN CHILDREN THIS CHILDREN’S WEEK

Children’s Week is a national celebration that recognises the talents, skills, achievements and rights of children.

This year, Children’s Week will run from Saturday 21 October to Sunday 29 October, with thousands of Victorian children and families expected to take part.

The theme for the week is ‘Children have the right to relax, play and to take part in activities they enjoy’, based on Article 31 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.

CELEBRATE TOGETHER

During Children’s Week, local councils, not-for-profit organisations, schools and early childhood services host a range of in-person and online events and activities that celebrate childhood and showcase children’s achievements.

Children’s Week events and activities are free to Victorian families with children aged up to 12 years. This gives families the opportunity to enjoy fun, engaging and educational experiences.

For more information and a list of free events and activities, please visit the link below or the children’s week webpage.
