Principal’s Update 7 March

FAREWELL FRIDAY

One of my many highlights of the week is visiting classes and engaging with the students on a regular basis and a new initiative we have implemented this year is ‘Farewell Friday.’

Farewell Friday is a dedicated time for me to visit every class and spend time with the students on a Friday afternoon. During these visits, the students and I will reflect on the positives and highlights from the week. Actively engaging and involving our students to regularly identify the positive things around them and to celebrate all achievements, fosters a stronger sense of self-efficacy. Students with a stronger sense of self-efficacy develop stronger beliefs about their capabilities. The way students view their abilities, achievements and self in the classroom influences their wellbeing as well as their learning. It is really pleasing to hear our students starting to acknowledge not just their own achievements, but those of their peers too and to show genuine pride in these achievements. Farewell Friday is just one example of our commitment to creating a positive, inclusive and supportive school climate.

INTERNATIONAL WOMENS DAY 8 MARCH

The campaign theme for International Women’s Day 2024 is Inspire Inclusion.

When we inspire others to understand and value women’s inclusion, we forge a better world.

And when women themselves are inspired to be included, there’s a sense of belonging, relevance, and empowerment. Collectively, let’s forge a more inclusive world for women.

I would like to personally acknowledge all the important women in our community and to celebrate your achievements, and to take the time to reflect on the fact that all members of society have a collective responsibility towards inclusion and to embrace and celebrate the wide range of diverse women in our community.

MULTICULTURAL DAY

This term in LOTE, students have been learning about Italian culture and folk dances of the world.
Melbourne school of Tarantella offer a fun way to encourage curiosity and openness towards other cultures and folk dancing. Students will learn the history and cultural background of the Tarantella and engage in easy, exciting dance routines from the South of Italy.  Students can wear cultural dress on this day to celebrate. We will start the day with our cultural dress parade.  Parents are welcome to come along and join in on the fun!

MOBILE PHONES

A reminder that the Department of Education has in place a mobile phone ban that requires students who bring mobile phones to school to have them switched off and securely put away during school hours.

The department is requiring all schools to ensure this ban is in place and enforced from the start of the 2024 school year.

The ban applies equally to all government schools right across the state.

This helps ensure that school is a learning environment free from unnecessary distractions and disruptions.

By ensuring mobile phones are kept away at recess and lunch times, students can interact with each other face-to-face, without the distractions and social pressures that mobile phones can cause.

I ask for the support of all our families, staff and students in continuing to support the implementation of this policy in our school.

Further information

Exceptions: For a small number of students with particular health needs, an exception to the policy may be granted. Please contact me if you would like to discuss this.

Emergencies: In the event of an emergency or if you need to immediately contact your child, I ask that families contact the school office who will pass on a message as required.

School mobile phone policy: A copy of our school’s local mobile phone policy, which implements the government’s mobile policy in line with our local context, is available here: http://www.bellevueps.vic.edu.au/bvps2/?page_id=114

Parent support: The Mobile phones in schools webpage provides links to resources for families to help them balance their children’s time using mobile phones.

STAFF UPDATE

I am very pleased to share with you the appointment of Bryce Griesheimer into the role of Assistant Principal for one day a week for the remainder of 2024. This appointment is part of a statewide initiative from the Department of Education and Training (DET) to provide additional funding to schools to increase their overall leadership capacity.

To support Bryce to undertake his responsibilities in this new role, 56G will have two teachers, with Mr Carney Kucharski in 56G every Monday and Bryce continuing to be in 56G Tuesday to Friday. Bryce and Carney will work collaboratively together to ensure the learning and wellbeing needs of students in 56G are met everyday.
