Principal’s Update 18 April

A very warm welcome back to all our Belle Vue families for Term 2. It has been a really settled and focused start to the term for our students. Every day at school counts and Term 2 provides a really important time for all students to build on the learning that took place in Term 1. Relationships between students and their teachers have been built, classroom routines and expectations are firmly established and the longer term provides the time and space for students to build on their learning and development. It is critical, that we make everyday count. At times, an absence may be unavoidable, however every effort must be made to ensure students attend school on time each day. Evidence tells us that students who regularly miss days of school are at risk of missing out on learning the basic building block in subjects, and may experience long term difficulties with their learning. School attendance helps children develop social skills, such as friendship building, teamwork, communications skills and develops a healthy self-esteem. Please try to ensure that any appointments and holidays are made outside of school hours. To maximise learning opportunities we need all students here all day. If this presents a problem for you and your child please make a time to see me. All late arrivals and early departures need to be signed in/out at the school office by a parent/guardian. It is not acceptable for a student to sign themselves in or out of the school.

It is going to be a busy term with lots happening across the school. To help with keeping up to date with what is happening, I encourage all parents/carers to download the COMPASS School Manager app from your app store, search for Belle Vue Primary School and login. We will be regularly updating school and community events through COMPASS and this is your best way to keep up to date with events across the term. Please contact the office if you have any issues logging into the COMPASS app.

RECENT TREE WORKS

Over the recent school holidays, we had an arborist onsite completing important tree works, removing and/or pruning trees of concern. This is part of our commitment to providing a safe environment for everyone in our school community and is part of our twice-yearly tree inspection and works.

ANZAC DAY ASSEMBLY

Our Yr 6 School Captains will be leading our ANZAC day commemoration assembly, next Wednesday the 24th of April. Weather permitting, this will take place outside under the shade sails facing the flags or inside the senior building. Our ANZAC assembly will start at 2.45pm and all parents/carers are welcome to attend.

LEARNING PARTNERS 2024
This term we will commence our Learning Partners program.  Contemporary research consistently finds the involvement of parents and carers in school life and the classroom can foster increased student engagement, increased confidence, and a stronger connection for parents/carers and students to the classroom.

If you would like to support learning in the classroom, a specialist subject and/or with excursions, there will be two induction sessions this week, Thursday 18 April, at 2.45pm or Friday 19 April at 9.00am. You do not need to attend both sessions. If you cannot make either session, but would still like to participate, please feel free to reach out to me directly. Relevant documentation and information will be shared at these sessions.

BEFORE/AFTER SCHOOL CARE PICK UP & DROP OFF

Thank you to all the families who have been dropping of and picking up children from Before/After School Care using the Highview Road gate between the library and hall. We really appreciate your support with this new process.

WELCOME TO OUR NEW FAMILIES

A warm welcome to our new families who have joined the Belle Vue community. Zijun in 23P.

SUNSMART

Please note the school’s sunsmart policy requires all students to wear their school approved, sunsmart hat until April 30th. Please contact the office if you need to purchase a replacement hat. Students who do not have a sunsmart approved hat, will be required to sit outside the main office during recess and lunch.
