Principal’s Update 6 March

MARCH FORWARD THIS INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY 8 MARCH

On Saturday 8 March 2025, we will observe International Women’s Day, giving us all a chance to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women across the globe. Women’s achievements, leadership and innovation are woven through the history of our society and we’ve seen women break barriers, reshape policies, and ignite global movements.  This year’s theme ‘March forward’ reminds us that the day is about more than just looking back: forward momentum is essential to turning promises into progress.

I would like to personally acknowledge all the important women in our community and to celebrate your achievements, and to take the time to reflect on the fact that all members of society have a collective responsibility towards inclusion and to embrace and celebrate the wide range of diverse women in our community. All women have a right to feel safe in their community.

DISTRICT SWIMMING

Congratulations to our District Swimmers who represented Belle Vue Primary School last week. All students demonstrated our school values, supported and encouraged their teammates and gave all they had in their events. We are all proud of your efforts.

HARMONY WEEK / MULTICULTURAL DAY

Harmony Week is a time to celebrate that Australia is one of the most successful multicultural societies in the world. It is about inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australians, regardless of cultural or linguistic background, united by a set of core Australian values. We are excited for our Japanese Drumming incursion on Thursday the 20th of March. Students can choose to come to school on this day, in multicultural dress.

Orange is the colour chosen to represent Harmony Week. Traditionally, orange signifies social communication and meaningful conversations. It also relates to the freedom of ideas and encouragement of mutual respect. We encourage all students to wear something orange of Friday the 21st of March, which is the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (IDERD).

COMMUNITY / WELCOME BBQ

We are very excited to host our upcoming Community/Welcome BBQ on Tuesday March the 11th from 5pm to 7pm, starting with the Open-Air Concert from 4.00pm. Please get your sausage orders in as these are being pre-ordered.  As a bonus to the evening, we have contacted Proactivity, who will be running some fun games for our students. We will have Mini Golf and AFL Mark and Goal. It will be fun night and hope to see you all there. A reminder we will have soft drinks for sale and we accept cash and EFTPOS will be available too.

We ask that families do not park in front of the double gates near the oval, so Proactivity can set up the Mini Golf and Mark N Goal, on the oval.

JUNIOR SCHOOL COUNCIL 2025

Congratulations to our Junior School Council Representatives for 2024. We will present them with their badges in an upcoming assembly later this term, once the badges have arrived. We look forward to your work as a group this year to create opportunities to improve our school and to promote student voice and agency in our school. I look forward to supporting this group alongside our Year 6 Leaders – JSC President, Marley and JSC Treasure, Yugo. We will have an update from our school councillors in our next newsletter.
