Belle Vue offers quality learning programs aligned with The Victorian Curriculum. Our teachers use The Victorian Curriculum to plan student learning programs, assess student progress and report to parents.
The Victorian Curriculum incorporates the Australian Curriculum for English, Mathematics, History and Science within the curriculum framework first developed for the Victorian Essential Learning Standards (VELS). Foundation (F) refers to the first level of school, which we know as Prep.
The Victorian Curriculum reflects the design of the new Australian Curriculum, whilst retaining Victorian priorities and approaches to teaching and learning. It has been designed to ensure schools and teachers are not required to manage two different curriculum and reporting frameworks during the progressive development of the Australian Curriculum.
At Belle Vue, Literacy and Numeracy are given special emphasis through dedicated daily time blocks. We continue to provide specialist classes in Physical Education, Visual Art, Music, LOTE (Italian) and Reading Support (Year 1), in addition to a well-resourced and maintained Library. Teachers maintain a detailed record of the curriculum they plan, teach and assess.
Our curriculum has been developed to cater for a wide range of needs, abilities and interests in a cooperative and stimulating learning environment that incorporates a flexible and diverse approach to teaching and learning.
To support our focus on the curriculum, all staff meet regularly to learn about and discuss the Professional Learning initiatives or foci. Teaching teams also meet weekly to plan together and assess the progress of individuals and groups of students.
Special assistance is provided for Integration students through the appointment of integration aides, who support funded students within DET guidelines. We have a well-regarded Extension program for students in Grades 2 – 6 in English and Maths.
