Our Fight Against MND

Fight against MND

Belle Vue Primary School is proud to join the Fight against MND, to raise vital funds for MND and help eradicate the Beast!

We currently have a member of our community, Peter Ruddock, who has been living with MND for 30 years and is one of the longest surviving persons with this disease. Peter is a former teacher of Belle Vue Primary School and is the grandfather of three of our students. Despite his daily challenges Peter has remained positive, witty, and actively engaged within the Community. Peter was interviewed in November 2022 by Tracey Grimshaw, who was one of his former pupils.

Peter is a life member of the Principals Association and a Life Member of the Australian Swimming teachers and coaching Association, he is a 50-year member of the Melbourne Cricket Club, a passionate Melbourne Football Club supporter and proud father and grandfather. Peter is a proud man, a resilient man, a soft-hearted man with a strong exterior, who has a twinkle in his eye.

On June 8th Belle Vue Primary School in Balwyn North, Melbourne will be hosting our own Big Freeze event in honour of Peter and the connection he has to our small community. We are a strong, tight knit community, which rallies behind its members in times of need, and we are proud to support this cause. Special guest Brad McEwan will be MC for the event. Brad is a former TV journalist and sports reporter for channel 10 news and a dedicated mental health advocate with a history connected to Peter and his family.

MND, the day of the event

A SMALL SCHOOL WITH A BIG HEART
What a wonderful afternoon we all had at Belle Vue PS’s MND BIG FREEZE. We were lucky to have
great weather to enjoy the activities.  Students had an assembly where Mandy Ruddock-Hudson
explained what MND is and how it affects her father Peter Ruddock (grandpa to Harrison, Hamish and
Harley).  This was followed by the Dunk Tank (donated by Their Care) with our M.C. for the day Brad
McEwan announcing our fearless dunkers MP for Kew Jess Wilson, Mandy Ruddick-Hudson, our
principal Mr Wood, some staff and selected grade 5/6 students who were all dunked into the freezing
water.  Students then had their turn on the slip and slide.  Well done to everyone for your efforts in
raising funds for MND.  We sold $1572 worth of Beanies & Socks, gold coin donations of $235.90 and
MND website donations of $995.00 what a great result!
Thank you so much for your generosity in raising funds into researching a cure for MND.
