At Belle Vue Primary School we use the Words Their Way program to teach spelling rules and patterns. Students are all given an initial spelling assessment which is then used to separate the student into spelling groups which target their specific learning needs. In the grade 1/2 area students are provided with words each fortnight, which they cut up and sort. They then practise these words over a period of two weeks. After their word sorts this week, students used icy pole sticks to spell their words on the floors or tables. Some of these pictures show the students hard at work sorting their words or making them from icy pole sticks … or maybe just having a great time learning!
