Hot Shots Tennis in PE

During the last 4 weeks in PE all students from Prep to Grade 6 have developed their tennis skills as Mr K delivered the Hot Shots tennis program.

Hot Shots tennis uses scaled equipment, including smaller courts, racquets and low compression tennis balls. This ensures all students are introduced to tennis in an environment that is suited to their ability and makes learning tennis fun and easy.

Skip 4 Belle Vue- Activity Morning

This year Belle Vue students have worked hard, practicing their skipping and jumping skills to improve their cardio fitness. To celebrate, we held a Skip 4 Belle Vue activity morning for the whole school to enjoy.

During 80 minutes of non-stop movement, students’ rotated through 10 different skipping and jumping stations. There was long rope skipping, partner skipping, a trampoline jump and even an obstacle course- to name a few! The Skip 4 Belle Vue event was run by our Year 6 students and has raised important funds to continue the improvement of the school’s sporting facilities.

In sport this week we have been practicing our basketball skills. This week we learnt how to do a chest pass and a bounce pass. We worked with partners to play the game ‘bump’. We had such a great time out in the sunshine on this beautiful winters day. Check out our pictures below.

Physical Education

Physical Education

The Physical Education program for 2016 is based around Fundamental Motor skills, game play and development, teamwork and sportsmanship. Our sequential learning program aims to develop a love of physical activity, by allowing the students to gain confidence and skills that they can use to enjoy sports throughout their lives. We understand that all children contribute at different levels, and our lessons are aimed to meet the needs of each student, with a focus on participation and engagement.

 

All students participate in Physical Education sessions for 1 hour per week, and classroom teachers provide additional sports sessions throughout the term.

 

Students are encouraged to participate in non-competitive sports just for fun, but we also provide the opportunity for students to excel in interschool sports and beyond!

 

The major events include:

  • Cross Country day in Term 2
  • Athletics Carnival in Term 3
  • Swimming program and Swimming Carnival in Term 4.

Throughout the year there are many other fun activities such as Ride2School day and Jump Rope for Heart. The Running Club also meets twice a week to keep fit and train for various upcoming events within a social environment.

Additionally, students in Grade 5/6 have opportunities to develop and refine their skills with the opportunity to participate in Interschool Sports during Term 1 and 2. They compete with other schools in the Boroondara area in sports such as Cricket, Volleyball, Rounders, Bat Tennis and Softball.
