This term our Prep students have been learning all about Animals throughout their integrated studies topic ‘Staying Alive’.
Throughout this topic we have been learning about:
-Living vs Non-Living Things
-Endangered and Extinct Animals
-Animal Habitats and Diets
-Classifying animals into Animal Groups including mammals, reptiles, fish, insects, amphibians and birds
-How we can help protect animal habitats
To celebrate our learning, on Friday we had Aussie Wildlife Displays come and run an incursion with us! We got to touch and learn about many different animals, including different pythons, lizards, a black cockatoo, a quoka, a wombat and even a baby crocodile!
We had a fantastic time! It was amazing to see all these animals – some of them being severely endangered!
Thank you Aussie Wildlife Displays for a fantastic Incursion!Read More »
This week we were very busy judging our stories for the Belle Vue Book Awards!
All the students worked very hard in Term 3, and wrote their very own picture story.
We went through the whole writing process:
- We made a plan for our story which included: characters, the setting, the problem, the solution and the WOW words we wanted to use
- We then began writing our stories
- We edited as we wrote
- We came up with a title and blurb
- Then we drew all the illustrations
After we finished our books, we all read each others amazing stories.
Then came the judging process! Here you can see some photos of us hard at work, making sure we scored each book fairly.
We judged the books on 4 criteria:
- Uses a variety of punctuation i.e. … !!! ?
- Does it have a clear beginning, middle and end?
- Does the story have lots of WOW words?
- Do the pictures match the words on the page?
Maybe the two students above didn’t agree when judging this book!
We worked in pairs, and got to review and judge 3 books. We weren’t allowed to judge our own book!
We scored the books out of 5 for each criteria, so the most a book could receive was 20/20!
We then used number lines to add up the scores. Ms Woodhouse took our score sheets and announced our two short listed books for the award ceremony on Monday.
We loved the whole Belle Vue Book Award process and we can’t wait to hear the winners, and listen to their stories!

During our ICT & Digital Technologies session last week, Ms Woodhouse & Ric showed Prep W how to take photos using the laptop cameras.
We took some individual photos and group shots.
Then we navigated our way through the laptop hard drive to find the folder where they are stored, so we could look at them later!
We had fun taking photos of ourselves, whilst also talk discussing the importance of appropriate photos and privacy.
We love learning about how to use technology in our lives!Read More »

3/4 used unifix and MAB to become little architects to demonstrate and calculate the Volume (L x W x H) for appropriate buildings. They used their buildings and their objects to determine the volume by using the familiar metric units (cubic centimetres).
See below pictures of their work in progress – showing great team work!

What a fantastic day we had celebrating Book Week at Belle Vue!
We started our day off by having a parade – showing off our wonderful costumes! Students and staff of the Belle Vue community dressed as their favourite character from a book that they treasure. Everyone looked brilliant!
Students then enjoyed exploring some of the 2018 shortlisted books through rotational activities.
We ended our day with a fantastic incursion called ‘Treasure Hunt!’
Thank you to everyone who contributed to such a fantastic day!Read More »
Today the grade 1/2s had an amazing time in their ICT/coding sessions!
We got to use a robot car with a camera and virtual reality (VR) goggles!
Students got to wear the VR goggles to ‘look through’ the camera which was attached to the robot car. This was very fun!
We saw how Mr Ric used mBlock (which is programming software on Scratch) to program the robot to move its wheels and flash the message ‘hi’.
We can’t wait to learn more about robots and how to program them!Read More »
Students in grades 1 & 2 have been exploring money over the past fortnight. During this time they have added up totals, converted between dollars and cents and learnt all about Australian currency.
For this activity students were required to use a pricelist for a theme park and plan their day. They recorded the things they would do, the foods they would eat and even the items they may buy from the gift shop. They then calculated the cost, using notes and coins as required. Here are some photos of the children hard at work.Read More »

This year’s State Schools Spectacular, ‘With the Beat’, is fast approaching!
Belle Vue senior choir students have been practising hard at home and at school. Recently, we headed to the Town Hall in the city for the first ‘mass choir’ rehearsal, with all of the other primary school choirs.
It was very exciting and was great to hear the different parts come together.
The Belle Vue students were beautifully behaved and super focused ALL day (and it was a loooonngg day!).
We can’t wait for the next ‘mass choir’ rehearsal, where we get to hear the amazing senior school soloists sing!Read More »
