Throughout term 2, the grade 5/6 students have been studying Australian Democracy. Building on from our first hand experiences in Canberra earlier in the year, we have explored the roles and responsibilities of government, the Australian democratic system, operations of parliament, the electoral process, along with looking at Federation and the different experiences and perspectives of Australian democracy and citizenship throughout history.
To help students in gaining a deeper insight into Australia’s history and political system, we like to make the lessons hands on as much as possible. In the attached photos, we can see grade 5/6 students participating in role play scenarios of the electoral process and passing a bill in parliament.Read More »
As part of this Term’s topic (Full of Energy), students at the 3/4 level have been designing, rehearsing and delivering presentations about renewable and non renewable energy sources. The presentations were completed as part of a homework project which asked the students to research about their chosen energy source. They found out how their energy source worked, where it is found and any positives or negatives. The presentations were peer assessed using an assessment rubric agreed upon by the students.Read More »
In previous lessons students learned about variables and how to conduct a fair test. Following on from this the students then designed their own insulated house. A warm cup of water was placed inside the house and the students had to accurately monitor the temperature and compare it to a control sample.
The results of the different tests showed that the insulated houses retained their heat more effectively. Following the test the students had to discuss the real world implications for this experiment. This included the importance of insulation and keeping doors and windows closed so as to keep heat inside.Read More »

Belle Vue would like to congratulate our Hockey 7s teams who represented our school with great sportsmanship and pride on Friday 16th of June.
For the majority of students, the day was their first exposure to the game of hockey. The students positivity and support towards each other throughout the day was outstanding and all players should be proud of their efforts.
A special congratulations to the boys team who successfully took out 3rd position overall!Read More »
On the 1st June, Belle Vue held its inaugural Upcycling Competition. We wanted to help students (and families) ‘rethink’ what they would normally do with their various discarded materials (throw out, recycle or CREATE!), as well as see how creative they could be when ‘reusing’ their waste.
Students across prep to grade 6 were asked to find materials at home that would have otherwise been thrown out or recycled, and use them to create something new.
There were two categories that students could choose from: make something that can be worn, or something that can be used.
A huge number of students participated in our competition, and their effort and creativity was outstanding!
Well done to all students (and families) who got involved!
