During week 1, students have been measuring mass using a wide range of measuring equipment (including spring scales and balance scales). They have also been discussing some of the practical applications for mass, such as buying fruit and vegetables or weighing luggage at an airport. Students had to estimate the mass and then work out the actual weight of a range of items using both grams and kilograms.Read More »

During Term 3 the integrated topic has been The Olympics. Students have discussed the history of the Olympic Games and researched some of the countries who have competed. The chosen countries are close neighbours of Australia including Malaysia, Cambodia, Thailand, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, East Timor, New Caledonia, Vanuatu, Fiji, New Zealand, Tonga and The Cook Islands. Not only did students research these countries but they also represented them during classroom Olympic events including the paper shot put, paper javelin and standing long jump. There was also a paper, scissors, rock competition as part of a Chance and Data activity when students discussed the likelihood of winning their group and recorded the results of their competition as a pie chart.Read More »
Grade 1 and 2 students have fortnightly spelling words as part of the Words Their Way spelling program. Each fortnight we provide the students with opportunities to learn their words in different ways, encouraging flexibility in thinking and opportunities at all times.Read More »

This term the Preps have been learning about Getting Along and team work! We have been working in teams to support and encourage each other when completing tasks.
We competed in 3 legged races, worked together to push team mates on wheelie boards and learned the importance of an end of activity handshake!

During Maths we have been learning how to give directions using the points of the compass. To help us we created a traditional compass rose and carried out a small experiment to demonstrate how magnets work. We also used them with simple maps and discussed how directions are a way of describing what direction to travel in between two points often using the words “to” and “from”.Read More »
