Today in maths we ordered numbers from smallest to largest.
Firstly, we cut out all of the numbers that we needed.
Then we put all of the numbers in order from smallest to largest. To work out what number went first, we looked at the first digit. If the first digits were the same, then we looked at the second digit. If the second digits were the same, then we looked at the third.Read More »
Grade 3/4 students learned all about how trees absorb water through their roots. This water then travels through the tree and eventually passes through small holes in the leaves called stomata. The water then evaporates from the leaves.
To demonstrate this we carried out a simple experiment using sticks of celery (as our trees) and water with food colouring. As you can see from the photographs, transpiration made the leaves of the celery go blue!
We carried out this activity following a range of questions developed by the students about our current topic “Green Planet”. The students wanted to know:
Why do leaves have lines on them?
What do leaves do for trees?
The complete list of questions that we want to answer is displayed in our classroom.Read More »
