The Preps had a fantastic time on their visit to Scienceworks! In class we have been learning a lot about forces, push and pull, gravity and what things are made of.
We explored all the different areas and had a great time with all the hands on exhibits!
Thanks to Mrs S and our parent helpers Meg, Phuong & Andrew for helping us have a great time.
Check out some of the photos below:
We can’t wait for our next excursion!Read More »

Grade 3/4 students have been exploring heat through a range of student designed experiments. A simple initial experiment saw them measure the changing temperature in a glass of warm and cold water. Using the same thermometer, type of cup and amount of water they discussed the only variable being the initial water temperature.
Following this experiment students designed their own simple experiment. They could change only one variable. Experiments carried out changed the shape of the cup, placed a cup outside or put a cup inside a container of water. Students also learned to create a control sample as a means of comparison. Data was recorded and conclusions were formed.

The Preps have been learning all about capacity this week.
We’ve been enjoying lots of hands on activities, comparing the capacity of different containers and estimating the amount that they would hold.
Here we are predicting which one would hold more, out of two containers.
Then we measured to check:
We tried our best to make our measurements accurate by filling one container all the way to the top.
Then we poured from one container to another to check.
The next day, we tried different activities such as ordering containers from holds least to holds most.
Then we filled containers to different levels such as – Full, Half Full, Half Empty, Nearly Full, Nearly Empty and Empty.
Then we measured using rice, sand and pasta to fill larger containers. First we estimated (a sensible guess!) how many spoonful’s or cupful’s it would take to fill the larger container. Then we checked:
We’ve had a great week and now we know a lot more about capacity!

Recently all students at Belle Vue participated in the First Aid Schools Program provided by St John Ambulance Australia.
Our grade 5/6 students learnt the basics of first aid including DRSABCD, putting someone in the recovery position and CPR.
The grade 5/6s took a lot of new information away from the session, as well as some confidence that they could be helpful in the unlikely event of an emergency.

This year’s grade 3/4 camp took place at Camp Rumbug (near Foster North). Students were challenged by a wide variety of activities including abseiling, aeroball, flying fox, canoeing, raft building, orienteering, team challenge and a mud run. Students rose to the challenges and demonstrated the importance of the You Can Do It Keys (particularly the Term 2 focus – persistence). The school newsletter item (including photos) can be viewed by clicking here.
Lots of teamwork was required as well as hard work, a good example of this was the activity groups pulling together for the raft building.
A major challenge was the abseiling with students needing to conquer the height of this obstacle as well as listening carefully to the instructions of the Camp Rumbug staff.
It proved to be a very successful and enjoyable camp.Read More »
