Preps are currently making family finger puppets to help them to learn family member titles. We have been singing along to the song ‘La famiglia della dita’. Follow the link to sing along at home. Next week they will start learning the days of the week in Italian!
The grade 1/2 students have finished learning how to express what they eat for various meals and are currently learning modes of transport ‘il trasporto’.
The 3/4 students have been engaging in discussion about all things culturally and historically Italian and are now doing a mini research task on a topic that interests them. They are soon going to present their research findings to the class.
Grade 5/6 have been learning how to express the time and how to write/use reflexive verbs. They are using this knowledge of time and reflexive verbs to write sentences that describe what they do in the morning in order to get ready.

Term 4 is well and truly in full swing now! All grades have been keeping busy.
Preps have been busy learning to count past 10, as well as consolidating on their number and colour learning by doing activities that help them to recognise Italian numbers and colours in their written form. They are now learning vocabulary associated with ‘La Famiglia’ (Family).
Grade 1/2 students have been learning how to use a junior Italian dictionary so as to find appropriate vocabulary to describe the foods they eat at various times of day (colazione [breakfast], pranzo [lunch], merenda [snack] and cena [dinner]). This week they have been learning how to put these nouns into a sentence that describes what they eat at meal times.
Grade 3/4 students both at the end of last term and in the past two weeks have been writing a short paragraph to describe themselves. This week they have shared this writing with the class so as to practise their oral speaking and comprehension skills. They are about to start a unit on Italy and Italian culture.
Grade 5/6 students have been consolidating on their knowledge of numbers, they have learnt ordinal numbers in Italian and are now beginning a unit of work on time and reflexive verbs (in an effort to describe what they do at various times of day).

As a fun way to finish the term, students were treated to a school disco run by STOMP Dance Company. Students enjoyed listening to their favourite songs, whilst participating in free dance, games and choreographed dances.

Throughout Terms 3 and 4, students in grade 5/6 participate in Bike Education every Friday. Students learn about safety aspects of their bike and participate in activities which allow them to hone in on their basic riding skills.

As part of the strong transitioning program for our students, Belle Vue students are annually invited to visit Balwyn High School. All grade 6 students are invited to Balwyn High regardless of the high school they will be going to. This approach aims to familiarise our students with a high school environment, learn about what support structures high schools have to assist students and the opportunities they will experience.
Past Belle Vue students also come and address the current students and are there to answer any questions they may have. This year, students experienced a science lesson in the fantastic science lab facilities that Balwyn High have to offer. This day is a significant part of ensuring students feel comfortable with their transition to high school.Read More »

This term the Preps have been learning about Getting Along and team work! We have been working in teams to support and encourage each other when completing tasks.
We competed in 3 legged races, worked together to push team mates on wheelie boards and learned the importance of an end of activity handshake!
