Glass St Kinder Visit

Glass St Kinder Visit

On Monday we took some members of the Belle Vue Junior Choir, as well as our resident Art extraordinaire Leanne Anstee to Glass St Kindergarten.

We sang ‘Get Back Up Again’ from the movie Trolls, and then worked with the kinder kids on a lovely Autumn activity run by Ms Anstee.

Capacity with Prep W!

Capacity with Prep W!

The Preps have been learning all about capacity this week.

We’ve been enjoying lots of hands on activities, comparing the capacity of different containers and estimating the amount that they would hold.

Here we are predicting which one would hold more, out of two containers.

1

Then we measured to check:

2

3

We tried our best to make our measurements accurate by filling one container all the way to the top.

Then we poured from one container to another to check.

The next day, we tried different activities such as ordering containers from holds least to holds most.

8

7

6

Then we filled containers to different levels such as – Full, Half Full, Half Empty, Nearly Full, Nearly Empty and Empty.

9

4

Then we measured using rice, sand and pasta to fill larger containers. First we estimated (a sensible guess!) how many spoonful’s or cupful’s it would take to fill the larger container. Then we checked:

We’ve had a great week and now we know a lot more about capacity!

Prep A & W & the Lambs!

Prep A & W & the Lambs!

2

Prep A & Prep W were incredibly lucky to have a visit from some special guests during the week.

We have been learning all about the weather in Term 4, and Minnie’s grandparents, Farmer Philip & Julie, payed us a visit to talk about why weather is so important to farmers.

They drove down from the country with a mother sheep and her 2 two week old twin lambs!

1

Farmer Philip & Farmer Julie brought the lambs in to the hall for us to look at.

3

Minnie and Archie had a turn at walking them around so the Preps could see them and pat them!

4

Then Farmer Philip answered all the Preps questions about farming, the weather and the lambs.

5

Ms Woodhouse even got to have a cuddle!

6

Belle Vue Primary would like to say a big thank-you to Farmer Philip & Farmer Julie for helping us to learn some more about the weather and for bringing along some of your farm animals. We loved it!

Responsible Pet Ownership

Responsible Pet Ownership

The Preps were lucky enough to have visit from Elke and her dog Oskar, who came in and taught us how to be safe around unfamiliar animals.

1

When we see an angry dog we should:

  • Stand still
  • Put our hands by our sides
  • Be as quiet as a mouse
  • Look at the ground.

Here we are practicing:

2

Then we did role playing, acting out different scenarios for when we meet unfamiliar dogs:

When we see a dog that looks friendly and we would like to pat it, these are the steps we should take:

  • Walk up and stop in front of the dog and it’s owner (not too close)
  • Ask the owner if it’s ok to pat their dog
  • If they say yes, walk to the dog slowly
  • Close your hand into a fist and let the dog sniff your hand
  • Walk to the side of the dog, and have a pat!

Here are a lucky couple of Preps who got to pat Oskar:

Thank-you to Elke, Oskar and the Responsible Pet Ownership program.

We will definitely put these skills to good use!
